NATIONAL GAY PILOTS ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM WITH SUPPORT FROM AMERICAN AIRLINES

NORFOLK, VA, May 27, 2016--The National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) launched a scholarship program May 1 for aspiring aviators to continue their dreams to learn how to fly. NGPA is partnering with American Airlines, currently its largest scholarship contributor, to award aviation students looking to further their education.

“We’re thrilled American Airlines is so passionate about the next generation of aviators,” said NGPA’s Executive Director, David Pettet. “It’s gratifying to be able to work alongside American to help pilots achieve their goals and we’re thrilled to award applicants who are making a difference in the LGBT and aviation communities.”

In January, American was announced as NGPA’s second Diamond Level sponsor during the Association’s annual event, Winter Warm-Up, in Palm Springs, California. American attended the Industry Expo where on-site pilot recruiters
met with potential candidates.

“American Airlines is extremely pleased to be able to offer these scholarships to very deserving NGPA members,” said Mike Waldron, American’s Managing Director – Diversity and Talent Management. "For many years, American has been committed to all aspects of diversity and inclusion and being able to offer assistance to the LGBT community in achieving their career goals in the aviation industry is something we are proud to do.”
